{OUTFIT} CHARTREUSE

vintage clutch & rings from mom (I ended up not wearing the purple one) // big sister's Swarovski necklace
Chartreuse or Kermit-the-frog green? I got this D&G skirt on sale from Loehmann's along with these shorts (gotta love a good discount). And I'm so relieved that I didn't give away that denim jacket, which has now been with me since middle school (back then, it was less of a cropped fit ;p). It's been my go-to summer jacket for those chilly LA nights, and I wore this look out to an omakase dinner with family friends. I'm thinking of wearing this in the day time with summer sandals and a sunny smile. Why so serious in these photos? I have no idea...guess that's my "model" face. hahaha... hrmmm....
Happy Weekend!

{FOODIE FRIDAY} BREAKFAST OF CHAMPS

With a side of cool & creamy avocado (oh you know, CA & AVOCADO are like this *crosses finger*)

At the beginning of the month, I did a {foodie friday} post on Madame Matisse, which is where my taste buds began their affair with chilaquiles. I got hooked on the flavors and had to recreate it at home. So this is my feathered version, with a sprinkle of chips, enough to give it a crunchy texture, and a splash of hot sauce for a spicy kick versus a body slam of spice. Then of course, gotta add a good hand of green on there (***hot tip: adding some green action to any dish really brightens it all up) with chopped chives cuz us Koreans, we add green onions as garnish on EVERYTHING!!! Cotija cheese (Mexican cheese) instead of feta, also tastes absolutely deeeelish with this dish.

{DIY} SWITCH COVER x FISHTAIL SKIRT

shop switch covers via etsy // DIY fishtail, high-low skirt via a pair and a spare

These aren't necessarily bona fide DIY's but rather just some sprucing up of old things. I thought that a simple way to splash some color and art into my room would be by changing my white switch cover. Safari animals have been on my mind lately, and after searching on etsy, I found this one, which is actually meant for a baby's nursery, but I thought it fit my room either way (b/c I's a big baby anyhow). And this skirt is something I bought from F21 in the 10th grade (whoa that's 10 years ago...hotdamn!), and with high-low skirts being in trend, I scissored this up and saved myself a couple buckaroos by salvaging an old and forgotten piece. HOORAY! I'm planning on posting more outfit pics with this skirt because it's definitely been one of my go-to summer skirts. so...stay tuned? toodles beeches.

HEY NAY, LET'S PLAY!

me and my friend, Nay's OOTD
Long time no see, friend :) It felt so great catching up with my old high school pal, Nay, and to pick up right where we left off. Two years have passed since the last time we had our usual 5-hr lunches. This friend of mine is definitely one of those types of people who I can talk to for hours about anything, from fashion to politics, to art and to our frequent trips down memory lane. The two best memories I have of high school are with this friend (along with other high school mates) and our trip to England/Ireland (sophomore year) and Russia/Latvia (senior year). It's a real comforting feeling to have someone in your life who you've known ever since you were pubes. There's no preconceived notions, no impression management, none of that stress of having to fake it, and just those warm, happy feelings.
Excuse this tangent, but Urth Cafe's blended tea drinks are AMAZING! I've been craving one ever since Nay and I met up...And don't you just love her ipad cover? She bought it from a seller on amazon who sells FAUX LV damier ipad and iphone accessories. hahaha I can't help what the 된장녀/brand whore in me notices.

{FOODIE FRIDAY} FINGER FOOD

sources: garancedore // fashiongonerogue // ktfrek // jak&jil

Food and markets are my great escape, and whenever I need to vacate my mind, strolling the aisles brings me this sense of calm and joy. My ex used to bug out by the fact that I could spend hours in the market picking out items, because he, on the other hand, could be in and out in less than half an hour by quickly picking out whatever was cheapest. Now this was a guy who was ok with spending hundreds on a pair of jeans, but not a few more bucks on organic eggs. But I suppose he was trying to compensate somewhere. Nonetheless, this along with other things just demonstrated one of the many small but rather significant ways in which we weren't very compatible, thus, evidently, we are now no longer together.
To me, food and shopping for food never seems like a chore, but rather something fun to do. Although you can't try out food like you can try on clothes, and surely there are hits and misses, that's all part of the fun. It's a pretty damn expensive hobby nonetheless, and if I didn't live back at home, I definitely wouldn't be able to shop at Whole Foods as much as I do now (shiet gets expeeeensive!)
While I milk it for all its worth, my taste buds can rejoice in Rouzaire de Nangis brie (and this one with a layer of truffles wedged in between...VIVE LA FRANCE!) And recently I've developed the unfortunate habit of perusing the beer aisle. There's so many cool craft beers with fun names and labels that it feels almost as fun as shopping for shoes, almost. But in a way, there's something about shopping for good food and cooking a tasty meal that satisfies my soul in a way that shopping for clothes and shoes just cannot match.

{EAT} HUCKLEBERRY BAKERY & CAFE

ordered: Chix Chopped Salad // Turkey Meatballs // Kouign Amman Tart

Representing sunny Santa Monica fare, Huckleberry serves fresh, homemade style grub that makes my taste buds sing "Zippeedeedoodaaaa!" The vibe is laid-back with the right amount of frou-frou frill (complimentary purified water served in cool carafes and fancy condiments like Sir Kensington's ketchup), and the food's got this sorta Franco-American flavor, reminiscent of something Gywneth P. would dig ;p After a failed attempt at Real Food Daily (American style vegan is still not my thing. Gonna stick to Korean style vegan) my sis and I make this a semi-ritual after studying in the beauuuutiful SAMO library. Refueling with delectable raspberry vanilla tarts, hearty baguettes, crisp greens and saucy meatballs does a body good. Next time, Croque Monsieur!
