When visiting Korea you have to check out Insa-dong in Seoul. Featuring a
slew of souvenir shops, local hand-made ceramics, and old twisted side-streets
that lead to simple yet beautiful han-ohk style restaurants, Insa-dong combines
modernity with traditional Korea, revealing glimpses of its historical past. I will
always remember this restaurant my family and I went to in one of the side streets
in Insa-dong. One order of pork belly or "nuh-bee-ahnee" (marinated beef) is
only ~15,000 won (~$15), and it also includes tons of delicious banchan &
amazing and the most unique serving of rice. They make their rice in large stone
pots (true old-school style), and then cook the rest as individual servings inside
hauled-out bamboo which is then filled with black beans, gingko, and a small
piece of sook (charcoal). Not only did the food taste fresh, home-made and
delicious, but the whole eating experience has become a wonderful memory
I will always cherish.
